Artist25: Numen

Numen is a European collective of artists. Like my previous blog artist, Monika Grzymala, they make giant installations from tape as well as other materials, but Numen has taken the idea a step further and made their installations interactive. The structures Numen builds are so huge that people can crawl through them and explore the installations. They're effectively installing environments.

Their recent Tape Melbourne project (picture above), composed entirely of tape, runs from one building to another. Numen artists had to climb through the structure to complete it.

They did a similar installation in Berlin, with the adhesive running from pieces of scaffolding.

They've also created massive structures from net.

I've never seen artists create such huge environments (save architects and engineers creating cities). I like the idea of completely surrounding the audience, physically enveloping them in the piece as opposed to just metaphorically or emotionally enveloping them in the effect of the art.
