Artist44: Shayna Leib
Glass sculptor Shayna Leib has distilled the feel and design of naturals elements to the most basic recognizable features. She pulls from water, wind, aquatic grasses and coral in her pieces, combining them in very organic feeling pieces. Each sculpture has a strong sense of movement about it, reinforcing the feeling of life in her work. Each piece has a feeling of grass or seaweed being swept and bent as wind or water currents move over it. She discusses the importance of nature as her primary inspiration, rarely looking at other glass-blowers' work. In her dontpaniconline article, "I want my art to come from me, channelled by natural phenomena".
According to the article in thisiscolossal, her pieces are meticulously constructed of more than a mile of glass, which she then cuts and shapes as necessary to create her pieces. She apparently ends up with more than ten thousand separate pieces in a single sculpture. She goes through several processes, each at specific temperatures, to get the form and color she wants.
